Typically four areas of hearing recognition are considered.

- melody playbacks
- melody singbacks
- identify the harmonic progressions
2. Write what you heard:
- rhythmic dictation
- melodic dictation
- harmonic dictation
- interval notation
3. Sing what you see:
- sight-singing basics using Solfege (Do, Re, Mi).
4. Keyboard Harmony:
- hear the progression
- identify the progression
- play the progression
