Happiness is a healthy piano player.
NEWS FLASH: Did you know that Heidi is an expert in painless piano playing? As a member of the world Performing Arts Medicine Association, Heidi was asked to present at the USF-PAMA 2018 Conference in Florida. Did you know that injury-contributing habits often start early in the learning process? Did you know that what she knows also applies to everyone using technology?
Parents
There is a reason why school teachers hold university degrees in order to teach kindergarten.
It is important to check out a prospective private music teacher's qualifications. If you study with
a well educated, true professional you will discover a whole, exciting, new world of
brain-training with amazing transferable skills while you learn to hear music in a whole new way as you learn how to play piano.
Not only will the stepping stones for success be customized to suit you, the approach will allow for faster learning and long-term success in the process of developing a healthy, positive approach to music-making. The consequent transferable skills are significant. Check out the Coalition for Music Education in Canada. Remember every subject can be addressed through music. Plus the self-confidence, focus, perseverance, self-motivation, analytical skills, problem-solving skills, self-acceptance, team playing, unbelievable multi-tasking skills, social skills, creative thinking, communication skills, time management skills, and freedom of self-expression name only some of the positive offshoots of learning how to play piano. There is so much more to playing the piano besides reading black dots on a white page. Have you ever considered that a strong sense of rhythm can help an athlete perform better also? Now let's consider the impact of increased coordination.
Here are some of the careers my former students have embraced. School music teachers, private music teachers, professional musicians, Canadian Brass, symphony orchestra musicians, songwriters, music producers, composers, actors, music therapists, accountants, librarians, doctors, engineers, chiropractors, athletes, newscasters, architects, lawyers, etc. My goal is that my former students can enjoy playing piano well regardless of their life choices. I also help my students apply the multitude of transferable skills they acquire in their music studies to their other areas of study including sports. I encourage my students to combine their interests into innovative career options. After all, musicians are in demand as the creative problem solvers and team players!
There's a growing interest in resuming and starting music studies for mature adults, many of whom recognize the therapeutic values of participating in music-making and have perhaps read the latest research in neuroscience. You are most welcome in my studio. Keep scrolling down to see what's available for you.
